The Voyagers CLUB UPDATE

We’ve officially completed the southern route of the c-NAMMs Expedition, marking the arrival of R/V Robert Gray in Charleston, SC. After roughly 10 weeks at sea, she covered over 5,500 nautical miles from the Pacific to the Atlantic, passing through the Panama Canal, conducting surveys at 9 research sites, and weathering everything from high seas to tropical sun.

Current Status & Next Steps

This phase of the c-NAMMs Expedition was executed in collaboration with our onboard guests from the Gentlemen’s Adventure Club, who brought their own brand of fellowship, curiosity, and scientific enthusiasm. Together, we documented marine microbes, shared meals, told stories, and endured swells, storms, and seasickness—a true adventure in every sense.

After passing a surprise U.S. Coast Guard inspection in Fort Lauderdale, the crew pushed north. Cape Canaveral became an unscheduled yet welcome anchorage when shifting weather conditions brought high swells and strong winds. For nearly two days, the vessel pitched through rough seas. Spirits remained high though, with dolphins off the bow and impromptu onboard movie nights helping us through the swell.

Approaching Charleston, temperatures dropped and we traded shorts and tees for jackets and knit caps. Even the onboard room heaters were pulled back into rotation. In the final stretch, the vessel transitioned from expedition mode to homecoming energy, as we pulled into our new base of operations on the Charleston waterfront.

The R/V Robert Gray will remain berthed at the Charleston Maritime Center over the coming months for continued upgrades and maintenance. Meanwhile, samples from the expedition are being delivered to research labs for further analysis, and our team is already planning the next leg of the journey—headed north.

We're proud to fly the flags of The Explorers Club, The Adventurers Club of Los Angeles, the GAC, and the Voyagers Club.
