The Voyagers CLUB UPDATE

As the final push to U.S. shores began, R/V Robert Gray and the c-NAMMs Expedition crew sailed through the shallow, crystalline waters of the Bahama Banks. Spirits were high and seas calm as we fished, swam, and soaked up the quiet beauty around us. A mackerel and barracuda were caught, though the latter arrived with half its body missing—likely the work of a nearby shark.

Current Status & Next Steps

On the night of March 14th, some of the crew were treated to a blood moon lunar eclipse. Though clouds prevented long-exposure photography, the experience of watching from calm waters with no land in sight made it unforgettable. With a slip available in Dania Beach the following day, we conducted microbial collection No. 007.

While anchored, the crew enjoyed Chef Gigi’s fried chicken and a "transom cigar" in honor of the setting. We also swam off the boat in 25 feet of clear Bahamian water, not far from wreck sites used in James Bond films. That night, RVRG weighed anchor and made an 8-hour passage into Dania.

Once docked in Ft. Lauderdale, the crew spent several days resupplying, rotating personnel, and preparing for the final leg to Charleston. We said farewell to Captain Pat, who expertly maneuvered RVRG into her slip under tough wind conditions. Our time in Ft. Lauderdale included essential boat maintenance, seafood dinners (conch included), and some spring breaker people-watching.

R/V Robert Gray now sets a course for Charleston—the next homeport in her modern journey. The c-NAMMs Expedition continues with support from our incredible community and partners.

We're proud to fly the flags of The Explorers Club, The Adventurers Club of Los Angeles, the GAC, and the Voyagers Club.
